Ryan Byrne

Entering into his third season as the Offensive Coordinator at DVC, Coach Byrne has overseen record setting numbers for the Viking's offense, averaging over 23 First Downs per game, 470 yards of offense per game (170 rushing, 300 passing). Coach Byrne's experience in putting up big numbers on offense is extensive, but his biggest accomplishment is the transfer success of his former quarterbacks. Every starter that Byrne has coached has gone on to earn a Division I scholarship.

Coach Byrne's job is not only on the field, he is also the Director of DVC's Academic Support Program for student athletes. After teaching in the Summer Bridge Program in Cal's Athletic Study Center for 5 years, Byrne has launched a parallel, year-round academic support program at DVC. The goal of the program is to teach student-athletes the practices and habits of highly successful students and to understand the complicated rules and regulations connected to the CCCAA and NCAA in order to ultimately be successful in completing a bachelor's degree at a four-year institution.

As a player, Byrne played quarterback at Santa Rosa Junior College where he was All-Conference and the team's MVP. Byrne then finished out his collegiate career at Florida A&M University. After finishing his Bachelor's degree at UC Davis, Byrne went on to receive his Master's Degree from UC Berkeley in Education within the "Athletes and Academic Achievement" program where, upon completion of the program, he was asked to become an instructor in Cal's Summer Bridge Program. Coach Byrne is passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the field and is dedicated to helping student-athletes reach their goals.
