6 Vikings Receive Norcal All-Conference Selections

DVC landed 6 players on the Norcal Conference 1st team! WR/KR Daniel Adler of College Park High School was selected to the All-Conference team for his second year in a row. He joins another Viking selected for the second time, Northern Arizona-Bound Offensive Tackle Chris Pitts of Antioch. For two seasons the pair has helped lead the Viking Offense to tremendous numbers and finish the year as one of the top 10 offenses in the state.

On the Defensive side of the ball, another 2 year All-Conference selection was Defensive Lineman Josh Nunu of Clayton Valley. Josh finished the year as one of the leaders in the state in tackles for loss. He is joined by a pair of Linebackers. Team Captain Richard Lee's hard-nosed play and versatility landed this Castlemont graduate a spot on the All-Conference team. He was joined by fellow Linebacker and 4.0 student, freshman Josh Atkinson of Alhambra. Another member of the defense that garnered an All-Conference selection was Cornerback Maurice Moore of Pittsburg High School. The lightning quick and highly recruited sophomore became the 4th member of the Viking Defense to be selected to the most competitive All-Conference team in the country! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

COMPETITIVE SPRING COMES TO AN END

The Vikings finished Spring on an exciting and competitive note as team competitions pitted the Green and White squads against each other in a variety of challenges. The months of hard work culminated with a week of high spirited competitions, the annual combine and the class final, Green and White Game.

Throughout the spring, the Vikings were visited by every school in the Pac-10, WAC, Mountain West, Big Sky and numerous other schools from across the country. Also stopping through were former players from Cal, Oregon, Fresno State, UMass, Fordham, Colorado St., BYU and more, all of whom returned home to check in on their Viking brothers.

Coach Darr brought in former players to speak to the team including Oregon alum, WR Marcus Maxwell who is currently with the Seattle Seahawks, University of Kansas alum, All Big-12 LB Joe Mortensen, Fresno St alum and current Oakland Raider, Sam Williams and Super Bowl Champion, New York Giant David Tollefson.

Prior to the Spring Game, coach Darr brought in another one of his former players to speak with the team. Tareq Azim was a DE that went on to play at Fresno State after finishing his time with coach Hall and coach Darr. Tareq is a young man who has taken what he had learned through sports and utilized it to help change the world. His message of making the right choices, having the courage to stand up to all challenges, chase down your dreams and control your own destiny, left every Viking understanding why he was chosen as the 2006 Arthur Ashe Espy Award Winner for Courage after enduring daily death-threats and several attempts to take his life for creating a youth sports program in war-torn Afghanistan. The former Olympian is now training several World Champion MMA competitors, including close friends Jake Shields and Gilbert Melendez. Coach Darr and the rest of the Vikings were truly honored to have Tareq and the rest of the spring's speakers help guide them toward next season's championship run!
